What causes rain to precipitate from clouds?

Water vapor cools into droplets which accumulate in size until they cannot be supported by the air.

Accumulated rain passes through a freezing layer of air. Ice crystals form a high altitudes and melt at lower altitudes into rain.

Warm moist air comes in contact with cool ground conditions.
